Ingredients for Chocolate Banana Pops

3 Ripe Bananas

How do you know when a banana is ripe? The banana will be all yellow without any green color. Ripe bananas digest more easily and taste sweeter. Bonus points if your bananas ripen to the stage of getting little brown spots! Those little freckles are starch that has been converted to sugar. Sugar from fruit doesn't have to be avoided for your health (unless advised otherwise by your doctor), and it’s oh-so-tasty in banana pops!

150 Grams of MiiRO Sugar-Free Dark Chocolate Baking Chips

Dark chocolate contains antioxidants, which are awesome healthy nutrients your body needs to function its best. That’s something we can get behind! Made with just a simple combination of unsweetened cocoa powder and a few other simple ingredients, MiiRO’s Dark Chocolate Baking Chips are sugar-free and vegan-friendly.

1 Bag of MiiRO Sugar-Free Peanut Butter Baking Chips

These Peanut Butter Baking Chips are optional, but we always recommend peanut butter with chocolate for a yummy combination (especially when it’s low-sugar, vegan, and keto-friendly). Not into peanuts?

Try chopping up a White Chocolate Bar with Almond Piecesfor a fun twist. There are endless possibilities when it comes to topping these chocolate banana popsicles!

3 Popsicle Sticks

These make three servings of these delicious dairy-free popsicles! You won’t need popsicle molds, since the bananas won’t fit in them. You may also want to use parchment paper to keep the popsicles intact while they harden.

How Long Do Chocolate Banana Popsicles Last?

These chocolate banana popsicles won’t last long — because they’re so delicious, you’ll eat them all up in no time! If you do have extras, here’s how to store them.

Chocolate banana popsicles keep best in the freezer in an airtight container. We recommend keeping them in the freezer for a total time of up to two weeks, no longer.

Where Did Chocolate Covered Bananas Originate?

Let’s travel back to Balboa Island, off the coast of Newport Beach, California. In the 1940s, couple Bob and Dot owned a candy shop. Their son, Don, was helping in the kitchen and was asked to store some bananas in the refrigerator. Don accidentally put the bananas into the freezer!

After they realized the mistake, Bob brilliantly thought to dip one of the bananas into fudge. And the rest is history! Such a classic and delicious recipe, all because of a childhood goof! That’s what we call “serendipity.”

Are Frozen Bananas Healthy?

Not only do frozen bananas have the same health benefits as their non-frozen counterparts, but freezing bananas is an amazing way to prolong their shelf life.

Bananas are a great source of:

  • Potassium
  • Calcium
  • Magnesium
  • Fiber
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Manganese
  • Vitamin B6

In addition, bananas contain virtually no saturated fat or cholesterol and are excellent sources of complex carbohydrates. Plus, you don’t need added sweeteners to make bananas taste amazing.

You can reduce waste by freezing your bananas and still maintain their healthy vitamins and nutrients! In fact, freezing bananas for later is one of our favorite hacks, and it reduces the overall prep time on the recipe listed above. Just make sure to remove the peels before freezing!

Frozen bananas can be used for baking, blending into smoothies, and of course, chocolate banana popsicles. The next time you have extra bananas, don’t throw them out! Freeze them for tasty possibilities.

Conclusion

Our no-sugar chocolate banana popsicle recipe will be a mainstay in your household during the summer. This vegan dessert is so simple and yummy, your family may just ask for chocolate banana popsicles year-round.
